I have been an Untangle fan for several years and have used it since around version 7. I have T1's at all locations.I am constantly on a quest to keep finding the better or best firewall/UTM appliance for home/lab purposes as well as for small business use cases where installing a virtual appliance or other whitebox appliance makes sense. Oh - my internet connection is also a T1. Maybe I should try removing it and see if that makes a difference. Not sure why its there in the first place because I dont think it needs to be. The firewall is second in the list for the order of preference. They are both in the scope for the 10.1.X.X subnet. No - there are no internal devices listed with untangles IP.īut my firewall's IP address is listed in my DHCP scope options along with my network routers gateway IP Address.
I have several subnets based on the 10.0.0.0 address range and they all have the same subnet mask.Ĭorrect, I have the untangle box "bridged with two nics connected on the 10.1.x.x subnet between the switch and the firewall." Your statement about "providing no internal devices list Untangle's IP or the Firewall's IP as a gateway to any private network" is interesting. Yes I did reference the 10.13.X.X but I didn't catch the error in my diagram until after I sent it. I am starting to think that putting this in front of my firewall might be a better idea.
I originally setup the untangle box behind my firewall. Down the road, Once I have untangle up and working, I could use it to replace my firewall when it becomes necessary to do so. I also use a 3rd party vendor to scan our email. I have a firewall that does a good job of keeping out intruders but I occasionally have issues with spyware, viruses etc. What I am wanting to do is use this box for added website filtering, spyware and antvirus. All defaults from install.ĭell Optiplex 330 Intel Dual Core 2.2GHz, 160Gig Hard drive, 2G MemoryĪnd last but not least - what do you expect from UT, I mean what is the purpose of this installation? No, Everything was set from the initial installation. Protocol Control, firewall and intrusion prevention are turned off.ĭid changes the default settings for installed modules? The modules that are on are: Spam, phish, spyware blockers, web filter and antivirus are on. But to be fair I am a one person IT shop and I haven't been able to work on it.ĭid you enabled modules on the rack (please list all enabled)?
No, I did mark the best answer yet because this isn't resolved. I can attach any other setting if someone wants to see them. So, did I enter the routes correctly? I have attached them. Maybe down the road it could replace my existing one but for now no. I dont need it to be a router or firewall. To catch things that my other unix firewall may not. The diagram shows the advanced mode in this configuration.Īll I am trying to do is, use the untangle box for additional protection for spyware, viruses, etc. I know that I found this in the documentation. WAN-unix firewall-Untangle (bridgemode)-LAN I thought for sure, this was the right track.Įither I am missing something, which is not entirely out of the question or I am thinking that maybe this configuration doesnt work? Ok, I checked out of these suggestions and applied them to the untangle box and I still have the same issues.
